Background:

Major Department in the design of residential, public and industrial buildings and complexes.

Within the designated areas of educational activity in the department students are trained to solve problems of a number of professional activities being implemented by architects such as designing, shaping, conceptual design, research, as well as business planning, marketing and management, urban studies, the development of the actual design solutions of both the buildings and complexes, and their interiors.

The Department of Architecture was formed in 2014 during the historical development of the academy and reunited three graduate departments - Architecture of civil buildings, Architecture of Industrial and Agricultural buildings and the Department of restoration and reconstruction. The foundation was laid by the Department of Architecture of civil buildings.

By the mid-sixties, after the separation of individual disciplines (the introduction into the architectural specialty, the history of architecture, the history of art) and specialties (town planning and the architecture of industrial and agricultural buildings), the Department of Industrial and Agricultural Buildings and Structures was organized.

 The first head of the department was Andrei Dmitrievich Kryachkov, an architect, whose name is associated with the history of many buildings in Novosibirsk - today monuments of architecture.

The department was headed by well-known architects and researchers of Siberian architecture:

Kuzmin N.S. - 1950-1968;
Khranenko N.F. - 1969-1973.
Ogly B.I. - 1973-1981.
Volovik AA - 1981-1990
Dmitriev S.V. - 1991-2005.

Leading practicing architects worked in the department of architecture of civil buildings in different years: Maslennikov, Kuzmin, Khranenko, Skoblikov, Volovik, Borodkin and many others. The teachers of the department did the projects and constructions of many buildings in Novosibirsk and other Siberian cities. Today, the department employs the heads of personal creative workshops and licensed architects.

The department of architecture of civil buildings became a member of the "Architecture" department, introducing deep historical traditions and pedagogical techniques (Head of the Department Popovskiy I.V).

The Department of Industrial and Agricultural Buildings and Structures, became a member of the "Architecture" department after many years of activity in Sibstrin and the Novosibirsk State University of Architecture, Design and Arts (since the 60s of the 20th century). The great experience of the educational, scientific and project work of the department has become a significant contribution to the formation of the broad professional capabilities of the Department of Architecture. This is a scientific and research and design experimental approach to the issues of the architectural formation of industrial facilities, agricultural facilities with the solution of urban planning, space planning and constructive issues.

The Department of Reconstruction and Restoration of Architectural Heritage was established in 2001 to train architects-specialists, in connection with active reconstructive works, carried out both in the Siberian region and in the European part of Russia.

Scientific and research and educational activities of the department under the guidance of the PhD in architecture, Professor Volskaya L.N. is one of the fundamental positions implemented in the work of the Department of Architecture.

Specialization of the department and its training activities

- Design of residential, public and industrial buildings and complexes. At the department basic (corresponding to the educational standard) lecture courses are read.

The practice of course and graduation designing is focused on mastering the methods and norms of work with specific orders and customers, on the independent compilation of design tasks from low-rise individual and blocked dwellings, small, medium and large public buildings and complexes to graduation projects on relevant topics for Novosibirsk and the region as a whole.

Since 2004, the department also has been training masters of architecture. At the department, postgraduate students are also trained.

In addition to the academic work provided by the training program, the department conducts work on patriotic education of students, organizes university contests, exhibitions of student projects, meetings with practicing architects to discuss current topics, excursions to industrial enterprises, public buildings and construction sites for studying during course projects.

The students of the department participate in regional, Russian and international contests of architectural projects under the guidance of teachers.

The department concluded agreements on creative cooperation and interning in architectural workshops and bureaus of Novosibirsk and other cities of the Russian Federation.
